The Comox Valley is brewery country — Cumberland, Gladstone, Land & Sea. Which is exactly why almost nobody expects what's at the end of Pickering Road: twenty acres of vines that became the first organically certified vineyard on Vancouver Island in 2019, with the winery itself certified in 2022.
Winemaker Freya Timmermans works with cool-coastal varieties that actually want to grow here — Ortega, Petite Milo, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Noir — and the results have been winning awards well beyond the Island. The tasting gazebo looks over the vines toward the Beaufort Range that gave the place its name.
Go on a clear afternoon, book the tasting, and budget an extra half hour — the drive out passes McClintock's water-buffalo farm, and you will want to stop.
Why it's a gem
Missed by every casual "wineries near me" search, beloved by everyone who's made the drive. High quality, low visibility — the exact thing this directory exists to fix.
